  Opportunities are not readily presented to the right person at the right time in the right place. A person employed in a company is faced with several barriers to her/his professional development. Either the workplace does not foster a learning environment or the project types are very limited in nature and the employee’s role within it is even more limited. This is the “lucky” employee who has found a job in her/his career. Other people do not even get the chance to get interviewed or even work in their area of education or experience. The employee is not empowered to assume different roles or functions within the organization and even if s/he gets the chance to do design or programming for example, their activities are most always hampered by market-driven gains. Creativity is stifled, programming is curtailed, post occupancy surveys may never come to fruition to close the feedback loop and inform the design process.
